Which language should I use

Hi all, curious minds! And welcome to another episode about What I would like to see in an IT candidate. I often receive this question from those who are new to IT and are trying to make a carrier in it. Which language should I use or learn? This may sound rude, but I always answer like: English. If you have some experience in IT, you may skip this video. But I hope I will still be able to give you some value. ...

I need to pivot my HackerRank project

Script Hi all, curious minds! I’m on hold on my HackerRank project. And I’m about to give you the story about it and my future plans I hope I will have time to achieve. It is really hard for me to do a test. I’ve already talked about it. The reason why is; most of my previous colleagues, when they applied for a job, had the luck to get it on the first or the second try. For me, it took over 40 attempts. I was at the university, and I tried to find an internship. I did not have expectations about the companies or the projects, or the salary. I just wanted to learn from experts. ...

Talk about my personal website

Script Hi all, curious minds! Last time I was showcasing a bit of my personal website. But I never talked about why I made it in the first time. I work in the IT, but my last contract ended. So I was square one on the job market once again. Every week I receive many messages on LinkedIn about whether I am interested in a job opportunity. Most of the time, they are not real opportunities I’m interested in. The hiring process typically looks something like this: ...

Setup a HackerRank workflow

Script Hi, all curious minds. Today I want to talk about a bit about personal marketing. Now I’m between two jobs or contracts. But finding a new opportunity is never an easy task. I have plenty of experience, but how can I show it to HR or a company that I have them? You can add working experience to your CV; you may add your projects. But as a backend or security professional, when you are not allowed to share internal-only code fragments, this can be a difficult task. ...

What is open-source contribution

Script Story While I was preparing to film one of my videos, I had to realize time had passed. My wife arrived home, and she had an online training in the next room. She also started the washing machine. Thank God I was only preparing a script or something to work with. I use Obsidian daily, and I also use a bunch of community plugins. Some of them have options on how you can support their work; some might need help with it. To prepare for my “presentation”, I used Advanced Slides, which is a community plugin, and it enables you to create a cool-looking presentation in Obsidian while you use markdown notes. ...

Find your niche - bad YouTube advice

Script? Youtube is a great place for sharing content. Showing your progress. Learn new interesting knowledge or just chill out. And even you can make a living out of it. There are various ways you can earn through a video. And most of them are somehow connected to building an audience. A very bad piece of advice I received when I tried to build my youtube carrier was: Find your niche. ...

First personal video

Script? Hi all, curious minds, and welcome to my personal channel. There are a lot of things I want to talk about, but I had a problem. Where should I upload it? And the feedback to it was like: It doesn’t fit your niche. How are you going to brand it? How are these things even connected? And the list can go on. My answer to these: These are my shiny objects. My mistakes, my interests. ...

Fix GitHub blog post publisher action

Today I was wondering about what productivity is. Productivity is all the things you can say not to do. Wait, what? I need to do something. I need to pay the rent, buy stuff, go to work, etc. Well, technically, yes. But you may choose to delegate a task to other people or for automation. Story Yesterday, I finally decided to separate my two “sides”. I still need to figure out what I should call it. ...

Common email issues

Recently, I had to help a friend with email problems. So I thought I should write a little blog post about the thought process of how I solved it in the first place. So you have a small business, and suddenly something changed, and something is fishy when it comes to emails. In my experience, most of the time, the following cases need to be checked: Emails do not arrive at their destination Emails did not land in our inbox IP is blocked by a security solution Emails do not arrive at their destination Email is an old textual protocol. In the early email-sending time, there where no encryption or validation supporting it. I can still send an email from the command line if I want and say anything about my identity. (Side note spammers often use this technique for sending ransom/blackmail emails.) ...

Pretotype a Kanban whiteboard

I’m constantly looking for ways how can I improve my productivity. If you are working in IT, you probably heard about scrum or kanban. It works great managing projects in small increments. But what about using them outside of your workspace? Some topics that came to my mind while wondering this question. They are project management tools. I don’t need them while I’m not working. Why should I subscribe to a service to manage my personal time? How am I gonna share it with my loved ones? Will it interfere with my job duties? Story I’m good at solving problems and doing my work in agile ways. At work. At home… well, I feel like a mess. I don’t have time for hobbies, friends, enjoying a book, planning a holiday, and so on. ...
